Saturday report

On Friday, Boyfriend won his civil court case against our idiot neighbor, whose pitbull bit Boyfriend back in the fall and caused $1,200 worth of medical damages and then lost wages. The guy ended up being dumber than he looked... he tried to claim that his dog was the sweetest dog ever and hadn't attacked Boyfriend or caused any damages, besides the fact that he had signed a document that proved just the opposite and the judge was holding photos of Boyfriend's stitched up hand. Needless to say, the judge just told him to shut up and pay up. Unfortunately, this guy seems dumb enough to try to get revenge either against us or our dogs, so we're going to have to keep an eye out for the next few months until we can move.

Friday night I went on the first of three four-mile runs this weekend in prep for the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey race. About three miles in, I was just cruising along, I looked up and saw Juneau happily introducing himself to a coyote. Coyotes are vicious out in Tahoe and are known for killing domestic dogs. The instant the coyote looked up from sniffing Juneau and shot a glance at Whiskey, this mother-bear instinct in me welled up and before I realized what I was doing, I was chasing the coyote with a fistful of rocks, hurling them at him and yelling. Whiskey was so busy sniffing out a squirrel that he missed the whole scene.

Driving home from my third four-miler today, I passed by some kids on the side of the road, dancing around with an "Iced Tea, Support Haiti" sign. I waved but kept going. Instantly, a deep sense of guilt passed over me. I was kicking myself.... telling myself, you are NOT one of those people that just passes by a kids' lemonade stand. You were that kid once. The guilt was tearing at me so bad by the time I had picked up Jason at the gym, I turned the car around and drove right back to the lemonade stand and gave the kids $5 for two cups of tea. The kids were stoked and the tea was delicious.
